Mangaluru: As the schools and colleges of the Dakshina Kannada district demanded holidays for Dasara from September 30, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar has reportedly consented to the same. The schools and colleges have been granted Dasara holidays from October 1 to 15.
Mangaluru MLA Vedavyas Kamath, in a press release, informed that the minister had agreed to announce Dasara holidays from October 1 to October 20, to allow the students to participate in the festival rituals.
It can be noted that Kamath had met and appealed to minister Suresh Kumar to declare Dasara holidays for school and college students from September 30. During his meeting with the minister, Kamath explained to him that the Mangaluru Dasara is celebrated with the same level of grandeur as that of the Mysuru Dasara and that the festivities will start from September 28. As there will be special pujas, homas and havanas at various temples, the holidays will allow the students, parents and teachers to participate in these rituals, he told the minister.
It can be recalled that earlier, it was decided that the Dasara holidays in the DK district will be from October 6.
