Mangaluru: In preparation and security considerations of the Karnataka Assembly elections, the deputy commissioner (DC) has ordered to clear all unauthorised banners within the district.

Presiding over a meeting held at the court hall of the DC office on February 9, DC Sasikanth Senthil directed people and organisations to seek permission from the respective officials during the next two months before erecting buntings and banners. Action will be taken against those who do not take permission, he warned, while asking to clear such banners including the outdated ones.

This measure is to prevent untoward incidents before polling dates are officially announced.

Data entry operators will be feeding all the election related data in control rooms in every taluk and the same will be relayed through online portals during the election this year, he said. Election officials should provide relevant information to them, DC Senthil said and advised the appointment of experienced videographers to capture the entire voting process. All government officials and employees will be deployed to the Election Commission the moment the election code of conduct comes into force, he said and asked all the officials to consider election duty as service.

D K Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer M R Ravi said the officials assigned with the election duty should take up the assignment with all earnestness. Already, the campus ambassadors have been selected in various college campuses and programmes are being conducted to create awareness at booth-levels by conducting camps, he said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar said that the election officials must provide statistics from the field on polling and provide detailed information on areas where low voter turnout is noticed. Voters must ensure their names are included in electoral rolls and take part in the election process wisely.

Commissioner of Police T R Suresh, Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Mohammad Nazir, Assistant Commissioner Renuka Prasad and Additional Superintendent of Police Sajeet and various district level officials were also present at the meeting.
