Mangaluru: In a shocking incident, the dead body of a youth who was electrocuted on October 25, decomposed inside the mortuary of a private medical college hospital located at Derlakatte, on outskirts of the city. The matter came to light on Sunday, October 27, when the body was handed over to the family members of the victim.

When the issue came to light, huge protest was organised by people, outside the hospital on Sunday, condemning the negligence of the hospital management.

Wilson Fernandez, resident of Thokkottu had died on Friday, October 25. As the final rites of Wilson were supposed to be held on Sunday, the family members decided to send the body to the mortuary.

However, on Sunday, when they received the dead body from the mortuary, they were shocked to see that the body had decomposed beyond recognition. Soon a protest was staged and on hearing the information, MLA and former minister U T Khader rushed to the spot and attempted to convince the protesters.

ACP Kodandarama, Ullal police inspector Gopikrishna and others also tried to convince the enraged people.
Hospital sources told Newskarnataka.com that technical problem caused the dead body to decompose.

“Due to heavy rainfall, the freezer of the mortuary went kaput. This has led to the decomposition of the body. The staff were also not aware as they failed to check the freezers, ” said sources.

Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha informed the media that legal action will be taken based on the written complaint of affected party.
