Deadline draws near for installing GPS device in sand transporting vehicles

Mangaluru: As per the provisions of the Karnataka Minor Mineral Concession Act, 1994, GPS is required for sand transport vehicles and the devices must be installed within a week, ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

The deputy commissioner had convened a meeting of the district Sand Supervisory committee on February 8, and ordered the owners of sand transporting vehicles to install GPS devices in their vehicles within a week. Vehicles shipping sand without legal GPS devices will be seized and are liable for further legal action, DC said. The deadline for installation was extended several times in the past, said DC ruling out further relief.

GPS device installation for sand transport vehicles in the district has been assigned to Telematics 4U Services Ltd and all vehicles are to comply with the order within a week from the date of its publication.
