Mangaluru: An incident of a few persons opening up the wrapped dead body of a COVID-19 victim in Mangaluru, in the presence of two local politicians has led to debate, here, on Sunday, July 26.

It is said that a parent of a Congress party leader died on Sunday and before performing the last rites of the victim as per the COVID prototcol, the protective layer wrapped on the body was opened as Congress leader Ivan D’Souza and MLA UT Khader wanted to offer their tribute.

The video of the same was uploaded on a page ‘Khader Nade, Abhivriddhi Kade’ and the same went viral making way for netizens questioning the move.

There is a rule that the wrapped body of a COVID victim cannot be opened. However, the same guideline has been violated in presence of elected representatives.

However, accepting the same, MLA Khader said that the COVID warriors who were dressed in Personal Protection Equipment slightly slid open the face of the victim, so that the family members of the victims could see the face of the victim for one last time.

“I believe that the face of the victim should be covered in transparent material. All said and done it is an emotional moment when relatives of the victim would want to see the face of the victim for one last time,” he said.
