Madhava Prabhu, an 85-year-old retired soldier hailing from Vagga in Bantwal, showcased unparalleled commitment to his civic duty by casting his vote before his health took a downturn. Despite battling illness and undergoing medical treatment at a city hospital, Prabhu sought special permission from his doctor to temporarily leave his care and fulfill his responsibility as a voter on April 15.

With determination surpassing his frail health, Prabhu made the journey to cast his ballot, availing of the Election Commission’s provisions for elderly voters to vote from home. This act of unwavering dedication to democracy was a testament to Prabhu’s steadfast belief in the importance of participating in the electoral process. Tragically, on April 24, Prabhu passed away while still receiving medical attention, leaving behind a legacy of civic responsibility and integrity.

Before his distinguished military career, Prabhu served as an inspector in the malaria eradication department. Following his retirement from the army, he continued his service to the community as the vice president of the Poornanda Multipurpose Cooperative Society. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.

Madhava Prabhu’s life exemplifies the values of duty, service, and commitment to the betterment of society, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him and inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
