Dengue, malaria only achievements of Cong MCC: MLA Dr Bharath Shetty

Mangaluru: The Congress-led MCC’s only contribution was to help spread dengue and malaria from house to house, said Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, November 9, Shetty said, “There is such a thing called a ‘Malaria Cell’ in the MCC. Their job is to conduct visits to mosquito-infested places and create awareness about dengue among the public. However, during the peak dengue season, the people working in this cell were assigned to calculate water bills based on meter readings for three months.”

“Instead of caring about public health, the corporators severely neglected it. That is why so many lives were lost,” he added.

The BJP MLA also said that one of its policy objectives was to store water up to seven meters in the new Thumbe vented dam.

Criticising the Congress party for failing to make proper use of the vented dam, Shetty said, “I, along with other district leaders, met the Chief Minister and apprised him of the water problem that occurs in our region. He (the CM) said that more work will be done in this regard in the coming days.”

Shetty further said that a 120-crore project proposal sent to the Chief Minister included infrastructural development work at the Pachanady garbage dump yard.
