Mangaluru: As Mangaluru faces a surge in dengue cases, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) is intensifying efforts to curb the spread of the disease. To enhance surveillance, expert doctors will collaborate with the MCC’s health section and the health department. Between January and October, Dakshina Kannada district reported 393 dengue cases, with a significant portion (277 cases) in Mangaluru City alone.
As per TOI report, the rise in cases from mid-September to mid-October prompted concern, particularly in areas like Kankanady, Falnir, Jeppu, Bunder, Valencia, and Attavar. Stagnant water, conducive to mosquito breeding, has been observed in various locations, emphasizing the need for heightened public awareness. The district had 1,539 dengue cases in 2019 and 388 cases in 2022.
Addressing the issue, the MCC council, chaired by Sudheer Shetty Kannur, discussed the escalating dengue cases. Council members Premanand Shetty and Shashidhar Hegde proposed forming a committee comprising expert doctors to monitor and prevent the disease’s spread. The mayor announced the formation of a monitoring committee, involving medical professionals, health officials, and educational institutions, to implement preventive measures and tackle the outbreak.
