Belthangady/New Delhi: Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala has been adjudged the cleanest religious town in the country as per survey conducted by India Today. The ‘Safaigiri’ award ceremony was held at New Delhi on Sunday, October 2.
The survey was conducted on basis of hygiene and cleanliness of the towns. The awards were given under 14 categories. The second edition of ‘Safaigiri’ awards from India Today is based on the initiatives from the cities towards cleanliness.
From Garbage Guru to Tech Icon and Water Warrior; from Cleanest Village to Cleanest City and Cleanest Religious Town, India Today felicitated achievers from different walks of life who have worked towards a common goal: a Swachh Bharat.
D Harshendra Kumar, brother of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade accepted the award from Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu.
Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who delivered the keynote address asked everyone to take that first important step towards giving back to society. “We are prone to making excuses” and blame our lifestyle for not leaving us with “enough time to read, let alone look around” to observe our surroundings, Bachchan said.
