Mangaluru:There was no boundaries for their fun as they laughed their hearts out. While some felt themselves engaged in amusement activities, some put their best foot forward in conceptions like throwing ring on eatables, hitting ball at empty boxes etc.

Over 800 from 16 special schools across the city assembled at Canara High School (Main) Grounds in Dongarakeri on Sunday, January 13. It was the programme ‘Vishishtarigagi Vishishta Mela – 2019’ organised by ‘Asha Jyothi’, a unit of Seva Bharathi. The objective of the programe was to bring equality between the specially abled and others.

The programme was inaugurated by Corporation Bank General Manager Vijay Walia in the presence of Rotary Club of Mangaluru secretary R K Bhat, Krishnaraj among other dignitaries. Students from Kavoor government college, SVS College among other government schools participated in the programme as the volunteers.

Variety of games and events for the specially abled students were held at the programme. Free lunch, snacks and beverages were served to all. Along with the special children, the care takers also were allowed to participate in some amusement activities.

Manu Hiremat, a 23-year-old specially abled expressed his pleasure over the event. “My teacher informed me that the singing event will be organised in the afternoon and I am eagerly waiting to showcase my talent of singing”, he said. Meanwhile, he urged the government to provide employment opportunities to the special children.

“We don’t want compassion or money from anybody. If the government provides us any job according to our ability, we are ready to do that. We want to lead our life with the earnings of our own”, Manu says.

An 11-year-old girl Nireeksha was seen insisting her father Ganesh Jappinamogaru to allow her to take a horse ride. Nireeksha has been studying in Chethana School in the city from the past three years. “She was bedridden before joining the school. But now, she is walking without the support of anybody”, said Nireeksha’s father Ganesh.

Sumathi Shenoy, founder trustee of Seva Bharati informed about the programme and told Newskarnataka that the programme is being organised annually to instill courage among the minds of special children and their care takers. “Our effort is to make them happy. If they feel that they are not different and they are similar to others, our effort would fetch result”, she added.
