Mangaluru: Deputy Inspector General SB Venkatesh, District Commander No 3 Headquarters, Coast Guard (Karnataka called on Shri AV Ramana Chairman NMPT on 11 Feb 2020 and subsequently on 06 Mar 2020 during the Board Meeting. Various facets and developments pertaining to the Indian Coast Guard, especially in Karnataka were briefed to the Chairman. With the ever-increasing challenges of security and safety at sea, discussions were focused on strengthening the maritime domain of the coastal state of Karnataka. The Chairman was also briefed on the progress of future developments. During the interaction, Chairman assured that the Indian Coast Guard in Karnataka would be provided with a dedicated berth facility to dock the ICG OPV’s. The efforts of the state administration in strengthening the Coastal Security mechanism were also conveyed to the Chairman which was highly appreciated.
The Chairman taking into cognizance the stellar role played by Indian Coast Guard and understanding the need for a dedicated berth to dock ICG Ships for providing a logistical, technical facilities, etc., In-principle approval was accorded by The Board under the chairmanship of Shri AV Ramana, Chairman NMPT on 06 Mar 2020 for long term lease of Berth No 1 measuring an extent of 130 m X 35 Width along with waterfront area for 30 years. This major step taken by New Mangalore Port would go a long way in enhanced surveillance by ICG assets in Karnataka AoR.
