Mangaluru: Town Hall, Mangaluru, which is an ornate in the city, is soon going to get a 500 capacity dining hall at a cost of Rs 99.85 lakh, funded by the 13th Finance Commission.
The work which was kicked off on Sunday, July 24 by District in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, once completed will give a major boost of the Town Hall, which is one of the most sought after venues to host government, cultural as well as wedding events in the city. Mayor
Meanwhile, a host of other programmes were started off in the city on Sunday. A new building for Night Shelter for homeless with only ground floor was inaugurated in Ward 45, Bunder-Kasaba Bazaar Road. The building has been built at a cost of Rs 99.80 Lakhs and has been completed in less than 7 months. The night shelter is likely to accommodate around 75 people. Families as well as individuals can utilize them.
Alake, Kavoor Market complex
Foundation stone for Market Complex at Alake was laid and the first phase of the same would be taken up at a cost of Rs.50lakhs. Keeping in mind the strategic position of Kavoor market, which is close to Port and Airport from two sides, foundation stone for the Rs one cr market complex at Kavoor was laid.
Reviving Santhe
MLA J R Lobo said that, while on one hand the government is planning to connect Bondel Junction to six service roads, in a rather out of the box thinking, there are plans to revive the lost concept of ‘Santhe’ (weekly fair or markets).
Speaking on these lines, he said that the proposed plan will be executed in ‘Alape’ after taking cue from Bikarnakatte market, where this concept is still in practice.
To a query on the long pending multistoried car parking, MLA J.R.Lobo said that the project has been referred to Karnataka Urban and Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation after consulting the Ministry of Urban development.
