Mangaluru: Close on the heels of family members of one of the Sharath Madiwala murder case accused levelling allegations against the cops of barging into their residence and hurting their religious feelings by throwing away Holy Quran, MLA J R Lobo has demanded an internal probe into the incident.

It is reported that the cops had entered residence of Kalander from Panolibail in Bantwal on Saturday and ransacked the house in the name of digging out evidences. The family members said that the cops tore away books and also threw the Holy Book, much to their dismay.

In this regard Lobo, in a press meet said that he will write to the DG of Police to hold an internal inquiry to expose the truth.

“If the probe holds any police officer guilty, then he should be punished, ” Lobo said.

However, when reporters told the MLA that the Superintendent of Police had already confirmed that such an incident had never occurred and that he has evidences to prove that Kalander’s family was making false allegations, Lobo said, “If such incident has not occurred then it is good, but if the officers have shown disrespect to the scripture then truth should come out and action must be initiated against erring officer.”

Show evidence

Meanwhile, United Muslim Organisation has demanded the police department to put out the evidence to prove that the incident had not taken place.

K Ashraf, President of United Muslim Organization told media that if the police have the video evidence that they have not disrespected the Holy Quran, they should show it.

“We are not defending the accused in Madiwala murder case, but we are condemning the act that shows disrespect to Holy Quran. It is incorrect to show disrespect to any religion and the said act, if had taken place must be condemned, ” he said adding that protest called for on Sept 8 in this regard will be withdrawn only after the police show evidence.
