Dist. in-charge minister directs officials to prepare for natural disaster

Mangaluru: After heavy rain lashed in several parts of Dakshina Kannada district affecting normal life, District in-charge minister UT Khader has asked district administration to take up proper precautionary measures as heavy rainfall is expected for next four days in the district.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall for next four days in the district.

Speaking to the officers of police, revenue, fire service departments here at DC office Khader said, “During emergency situations, officers without waiting for an order from the senior officer, should immediately respond to the problems of a natural disaster. Officers should identify danger zones which would be easily affected due to the rain and under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner all assistant commissioners, Taluk Panchayath CEOs, Tashildars should visit their area and hold a meeting with concerned officers. After holding the meeting, should submit a report to the district administration and based on this report the district administration will make proper arrangments to tackle the emergency situation.”

“This year the district has witnessed highest rainfall of 1957 millimeters. Till July 11, every day 160 millimeters of rainfall is expected. The district has witnessed highest rainfall comparatively to the previous year.” He added.

“NDRF team from Visakhapatnam has arrived at the city and it will be deployed to tackle natural disasters” Khader added.

Assitant Deputy Commissioner Kumar said, “The danger zone of Nethravathi rivers is about 31.5 meters, present water level of Netthravathi river is 27 meters”.

He also informed that in the district 10 people have died due to heavy rain.

“Already district administration has given compensation of Rs 23 Laks for six families. The district administration will provide compensation of Rs 5 Lakhs for the death reported on Friday.
