District admin all set to ensure fair elections: DC

Mangaluru: Terming the elections as an “Expression of Democracy”, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil urged the people not to stay away from voting.

Addressing a press meet at DC office, he informed that the district administration was all set to conduct the elections in a smooth manner. The Election Commission has deployed 13176 staffs across the 1858 polling stations in the entire district to ensure that elections are held in a free and fair manner.

“In every polling station there will be four officers and a D-group employees have been deputed. District administration has 2699 ballot unit, 2262 control units and 2608 VVPAT. District administration has 40% additional EVMs reserved for the election in case of any emergency”, he said.

“The administration has deployed 335 buses, 163 vans and 150 jeeps for the election process. We have also provided the basic facilities to all the polling stations.12837 election staffs, 1295 police officers and 43 bus drivers will exercise their franchise through the postal ballot. Already 5000 election officers have exercised their franchise through postal ballot”, DC said.

The deputy commissioner warned that a strict action would initiated against those misleading voters through false messages and doctored messages via social media. “We will also register a Suo Motu case,” he added.

The counting of votes of all constituencies on May 15 would be held at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Higher Primary School and Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Composite Pre University College, Bondel in Mangaluru.
