Mangaluru: Gearing up to tackle drinking water problems arising in the district is the need of the hour. This was the general view that surfaced at a district level meeting chaired by district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai.
Though there were no specific problems raised, Rai instructed officials functioning across the district to get prepared to tackle drinking water problems that would arise in the coming days. However MLA, Mangaluru South, J R Lobo keeping in view the possible shortage of water supply in city, suggested fixing of water meters for all illegal connections along the pipe line between Thumbe and Padil.
Due to illegal connections along the line, city was receiving less than expected water. He urged the minister to resolve the problem. He demanded illegal supply should be stopped. Many along this pipeline were borrowing round-the-clock water illegally. An official from the MCC said due to this problem many high reach areas facing were supply shortage.
The minister Rai instructed MCC to fix the problem. He also directed the MESCOM to give temporary connections to new bore wells with immediate effect. He warned officials of holding them responsible if the public came up with complaints pertaining to water in the district and city.
