Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration celebrated the 129th birth anniversary of the Chairman of the Indian Constitution drafting committee, Dr B R Ambedkar in a simple manner on Tuesday, April 14.
District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary inaugurated the simple celebration by lighting the lamp and paying a floral tribute to a portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr R Selvamani, president Meenakshi Shanthigodu, vice president Kasthuri Panja, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police B M Lakshmi Prasad also participated in the muted event.
It can be noted that the district administration celebrates Dr B R Ambedkar’s birth anniversary every year in a grand manner. But, due to the lockdown, every district is celebrating the occasion in a simple manner this year. Only a few elected representatives and government officials were present during the programme.
As social distancing is a must to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, those present at the programme maintained their distance from each other and also wore masks. Minister Kota also asked the public to continue to cooperate with the district administration by adhering to the lockdown guidelines as it has been extended till May 3.
