Mangaluru: DK District Congress committee members led by MLC Ivan D’Souza and Ibrahim Kodijal (Chairman, MUDA) submitted a memorandum on Saturday to the State home minister through the IG (Western Range) Arun Chakravarthy, seeking the arrest of BJP led right wing activists involved in DySP Kallappa’s suicide.

Speaking to media persons, Ivan D’Souza said, MLA Nadavalli had mentioned in the legislative assembly about the involvement of BJP MLA CT Ravi and Bajrang Dal activists that led to the suicide of Kallappa Handibhag, DySP at Chikkamagaluru . JDS state president HD Kumaraswamy has voiced the same views more strongly on July 22 and has demanded action against the accused. Though the police have managed to nab three accused in the case, the main accused Praveen Khandya and his associate Naveen Shetty are still at large.

Giving instances of BJP led organizations’ involvement in killing of RTI activists Vinayak Baliga in Mangaluru and Harish Poojary in Bantwal, the Congress leaders accused the BJP led organisations of direct involvement in many such cases including that of DYSP Kallappa Handibhag. They also accused the right wing organizations of provoking officers like Anupama Shenoy who resigned from her post. They said that investigation must be carried out looking into various angles to gather strong evidence against the accused.

BJP and the right wing organizations led by it have vitiated the peaceful atmosphere within the State and if the main accused and other Bajrang Dal activists are not arrested, then Congress will intensify their protests, Ivan D’souza warned.

Accusing BJP of playing politics over suicide cases and neglecting serious issues that haunt the State, the members demanded public apology from BJP.
