Mangaluru: While gearing up for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections, the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Congress has appointed six spokespersons to fortify the party.
Shashidhar Hegde, Mahabala Maarla, Harinath M, Ashok DK, Naveen R D’Souza and AC Vinayaraj are the spokespersons appointed on the direction of DK District In-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, District President of Congress Ibrahim Kodijal informed. The six members belonging to diverse communities were appointed on the basis of services rendered by them during their tenure in the Mangaluru City Corporation at various levels, Kodijal added.
Congress slams Shivamogga BJP MLA
It may be recalled that a BJP MLA from Shivamogga had challenged the CM that the latter’s head would be beheaded if he ate beef at Gopi Circle. Slamming the MLA, Kodijal said that his words were insulting to the Constitution and the law of the land. “Siddaramaiah is the best Chief Minister of Karnataka he has seen after Devaraj Urs,” he claimed. Speaking further, he said that the Congress President Sonia Gandhi had met the President of India and registered her grievance with him on the issue. He said that the growing intolerance in the country had dented the prestige of the country.
Speaking about violence in the district, Kodijal said that a lot of his NRI well-wishers feared to setup businesses here due to rising violence.

Questioning the basis on which BJP had built its campaign prior to the Lok Sabha polls, Kodijal said that the prices of pulses, fruits, vegetables and other essentials had doubled compared to that during the UPA rule. He said that the youth are being misled by the BJP in the name of religion and patriotism.
Former mayor Mahabala Maarla, Shashidhar Hegde, TK Sudhir and Nazir Bajal were present among others.
