Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district Congress condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comment on former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and opined that he had given such a statement out of frustration.
District Congress spokesperson A C Vinayraj on Monday, May 6, said that Modi was frustrated, thinking about the results of Lok Sabha elections, which had led him to give a degrading statement against Rajiv Gandhi. “We can’t expect any good words from the chaiwala prime minister”, he said.
Vinayraj said that no court had declared Rajiv Gandhi as corrupt or a culprit in the alleged Bofors scam. “Though the BJP government has been in power for the last five years, it has failed to furnish any documents to the Court, proving the corruption charges against the then Congress government in the alleged Bofors scam. How can Modi give such a degrading statement about Rajiv Gandhi?”, he questioned and added that Modi had made such a statement after losing his consciousness.
Vinayraj predicted that BJP would not come to power again. “The people have already decided not to re-elect Modi as the prime minister of the country again, considering his anti-people programmes”, he added.
MLC Ivan D’Souza and other Congress leaders Santosh Kumar Shetty, Appi and Prakash Salian were present.
