Mangaluru: Amid tight security Dakshina Kannada district administration observed Tippu Jayanthi at Zilla Pancahayath here on Friday November 10.
District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, who inaugurated the Tipu Jayanthi said that efforts are being made to defame Tipu Sulthan by distorting facts.
“Tipu was the man who created history. Emphasizing on social harmony, Tipu Sulthan has helped many temples in the state. But there are few people who are trying to brand Tipu as anti-national and Anti Hindu,” Rai said adding that Tippu Sulthan is the only king who even sacrificed his children for the country.
State minister UT Khader said that there was an immediate need to only look at Tipu’s contributions and not his community.
“Tipu Sulthan strived for communal harmony and fought against the British. We should not create problems and social divide for political gains,” he said.
Arvinda Chokkada, professor from Ujire in his message about Tipu Sulthan said that there is difference between the time of Tipu Sulthan and present democracy. “Tippu was a leader who was against slavery. Tippu had won two wars against the British and he worked very hard to unite Indians. His administration also reflects that he emphasised on democratic system administration,” he said.
MLA JR Lobo also spoke during the occasion.
