Mangaluru: District Congress led by former MLC Ivan D’Souza will carry out a padayatra from Mallikatte Congress office to Rao and Rao Circle petrol pump on Monday, June 14 protesting against the central government over rising fuel prices.
Addressing media persons here on Saturday June 12, Ivan D’Souza said, “The government is looting the poor. A record was broken in fuel prices when it touched Rs 100 mark. The increase in fuel prices is putting a strain on people from all walks of life. Fuel prices should be reduced by the central government to aid the economy. Even when a barrel of crude oil reached $140, the cost of petrol was Rs 70 throughout the UPA government’s tenure. And today when the crude oil prices are low, it has touched Rs 100.”
“We will hold a padayatra from Mallikatte Congress office to Rao & Rao Circle petrol pump on Monday June 14 as a protest against the central government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked to clap, light candles and bang vessels to fight the pandemic. We follow the same during our protest,” he said.
Congress leaders Shashidhar Hegde, Sahul Hameed, Naveen D’Souza, Mohammed Kunjathbail, Appi, Subhodaya Alva and others were present.
