DK, Udupi & others declare holiday for schools, PU colleges on Aug 13

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil and Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis have declared one day holiday on August 13 for schools and pre-university colleges in their respective districts due to the incessant rainfall.

The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains for next 48 hours.

Apart from the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has issued a holiday for all anganvadis, schools and colleges in the malnad region of Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and Kodagu districts as well.

According to sources at the DPI, all the schools, colleges and anganvadis in Kodagu will remain shut on Monday. In Chikkamagaluru, educational institutions in Mudigere, Koppa, NR Pura and Sringeri blocks will remain shut on Monday. In Shivamogga the education department announced a holiday for all the schools and colleges in the Thirthahalli and Hosanagara blocks following the heavy rainfall forecast.

According to the authorities in the Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and Kodagu districts, the midterm vacation will be shortened during Dasara.

Since it has been raining heavily for the past two days, the administrations did not want to put kids at risk and decided to declare one day holiday tomorrow.
