Mangaluru: A soldier of Dakshina Kannada origin was recently conferred with the DG’s Disc Award and certificate for thwarting a terrorist strike by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group at Karan Nagar, Kashmir.

The soldier, Zubair ((29) was part of a battalion that thwarted a terror attack planned by two LeT militants on the “23 battalion of CRFP” on February 13. He along with other soldiers strongly retaliated to the terrorist attack forcing the militants to retreat to a nearby building. They however continued to attack the soldiers before they were finally gunned down by the security forces after a 32 hours long stand off. Zubair had played a major role in this operation.

DG of CRPF Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar on February 15, awarded DG’s Commendation Disc and certificates to 96 CRPF Jawans, including Zubair.

Zubair who cherished a dream of becoming a police officer had joined the Indian Army in 2013. He served in Hyderabad, Latur in Maharastra and presently he is posted in Srinagar from the past 2.5 years.

Zubair completed his primary school in Haleneranki Government Primary School. He did his PUC in Shri Ramakunjeshwara Pre-University College. He completed his BBM in St. Philomina’s College, Puttur in 2011.
