Mangaluru: A total of 15 persons who returned from Dubai in a flight two days ago have been tested positive for Covid-19, on Thursday, May 15. Another person, reportedly hailing from Surathkal too has been tested positive.
With these 16 new cases, the total number of cases in Dakshina Kannada district has reached the 50 mark.
Informing about the details of the new cases, Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh told mediapersons that the primary contacts of all the infected persons are being traced.
Of the 15 Dubai returnees who tested positive for Covid-19 today, three are from the same family. A 45-year-old man, his 33-year-old wife and unfortunately, their six-year-child also tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately, all 38 pregnant women on the flight, tested negative, DC Sindhu informed.
It can be noted that a total of 176 passengers from Dubai landed in Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on May 12.
Soon after they came to the city, they were quarantined by the district administration and their throat swabs were sent for testing on May 13. Now, 15 have been tested positive.
It is the highest number of positive cases of Covid-19 for a day in Dakshina Kannada district so far.
Another flight from Dubai is set to arrive at the Mangaluru International Airport on May 18. The flight will be ferrying a total of 171 passengers, the DC informed, adding that all precautionary measures have been taken.
