Moodbidri : Moodbidri police have registered cases against 9 persons on the charges of torturing a housewife for more dowry and driving her out of the house. Those booked include the husband of the woman.
The accused are Nazeer Hussain, his father HA Khader, mother Bipathima, sisters Jubaida, Khatija, Sauda Banu, brothers-in-law Ibrahim Ulaibettu, Sulaiman and Basheer.
The victim, who is the daughter of Abdul Khader of Kinnikambla was given in marriage to Nazeer Hussain, a resident of near Handelu Masjid on 4-6-2013 at Kaikamba. The groom was given 65 sovereigns of gold and Rs 3 lakhs cash at the time of marriage. However, Nazeer who did not return to the Gulf to report to his job after wedding, stayed in town and began to torture his wife for more dowry. Even his family members had reportedly joined him in torturing his wife.
On February 28, all of them reportedly drove the young housewife out of their house. On the basis of the woman’s complaint police have booked nine persons. It is learnt, Nazeer Hussain, the prime accused is absconding Police are on the lookout for him.
