Mangaluru: A compilation of poems penned by folk scholar Dr K Chinnappa Gowda under the title of ‘Kittale Hannalla’ was released at Patrika Bhavan on Saturday, July 27.
Former vice-chancellor of Hampi University Prof B A Vivek Rai released the book and said that poems also act as a media which help to transform the society. “There is a slight difference between poem and statement. If statement or reporting does not involve any exaggeration, poem may have such quality, but, the intention of both are the same”, he said.
“ Compilation of poems ‘Kittale Hannalla’ might be the first book of Chinnappa Gowda. Though Gowda already informed that it would be his last book too, I don’t think so. The reason is, once a poet start imagining things and gives poetry touch to it, he never stops it. All poems have a very nice feeling and it narrates culture and tradition of our society. Though the number of poetry readers is dwindling, there is a need to popularise poetry,” Vivek Rai added.
Historian and retired history Professor of Mangalore University Surendra Rao being the chief guest of the programme informed that Chinnappa Gowda’s contribution to Kannada literary works should be much more. “There were several instances wherein research scholars excelled as poets also. Hence, there is a bright future to Gowda too”, he informed.
Cover designer Kallur Nagesh was also present.
