Mangaluru: The Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) has demanded ministerial berth for Sullia MLA Angara and also said that the six-time MLA must be appointed as the District in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada.
Jagadish Pandeshwar, convener of Dakshina Kannada district unit of the DSS informed that despite Angara being elected six times from Sullia as MLA, he was denied ministerial berth. “Dalit community is facing several issues such as delay in granting DC Manna land, employment opportunities for youth in the community, hostel facilities and many more. In order to address our issues, our community leader must become minister”, he said.
Jagadish also informed that poor students of dalit community are denied education in private colleges due to exorbitant fee and donations. “Many government posts reserved for SC/ST are vacant for years and nationalised banks are denying loans to us for self-employment, despite provisions in various departments and under the Ambedkar Board. It would be easy to address the problems of dalits in our district, if our leader becomes the minister”, he stressed.
