Puttur: The fifth additional district and sessions court on Saturday February 25 in its verdict awarded imprisonment for life to two people facing charges of murdering a couple in Puttur taluk around five years ago.

The accused Muhammed Rafiq, a native of Kodagu district and Muhammed Kamaluddin, a resident of Beltangady had brutally murdered the couple Baby Thomas and his wife, Mary Thomas hailing from Undila with intent of making away with their valuables.

The incident took place in 2012, when the accused approached the couple late September 25 night asking for help to reach a nearby spot citing that their vehicle had broken down near their house. When Baby Thomas obliged to their request and gave them a lift in his car, the two murdered him by stabbing and returned to their house where they killed Mary too before escaping with the valuables.

While the court had held the accused guilty of murder on February 22, it pronounced punishment of life term on Saturday. The two also have been asked to pay fine for crimes under different sections of Indian Penal Code failing which they will have to serve different additional jail terms as mentioned in the judgement.
