Mangaluru: Two people have been arrested on charges of gang-raping a dalit woman in Uppinangady on February 17.
The arrested are Dhananjay (26), an autorickshaw driver, and Kushalappa (24), working for a private firm, both residents of Kokkada.
According to police, the duo on February 15 had taken the victim to a secluded place and gang-raped her. The woman had been to her sister’s house in Uppinangady on February 15 to attend a religious fest. The accused Dhananjay who had spoken to the victim over the phone on the same day requested her to accompany him to the fest. When she agreed he took her to an abandoned house and gang-raped her along with his friend Kushalappa. Later, she was abandoned late night by the accused.
The victim after spending the whole night in Uppinangady approached police and filed a complaint against the duo.
The arrest was made by police team led by Uppinangady inspector Gopal Naik and sub-inspector Nandakumar on Saturday February 17.
The accused have been sent to judicial custody.
