Mangaluru: In a heartbreaking incident reported from Tundu Padavu near Loretto, an elderly couple lost their lives while attempting to extinguish a fire that had consumed a stretch of dry grass on a hill. The victims, identified as Christine Carlo (70) and Gilbert Carlo (79), met their unfortunate end on Sunday afternoon.
The incident unfolded between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm on January 28. The couple, upon noticing flames on the nearby hill, rushed to the location to assess the situation. Concerned about the potential spread of the fire to the neighborhood, they volunteered to extinguish it. Tragically, it seems that the fire engulfed the couple during their efforts.
Unfortunately, by the time neighbors became aware of the situation, the elderly couple had already succumbed to the fire. The Bantwal police station personnel visited the scene to investigate further. Additional details about the incident are awaited.
