Mangaluru: Dr Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisarga Dhama has procured electrical vehicles for movement of visitors inside the park to strictly follow the green initiative the park is dedicated to.
The nisargadhama pooled in Rs 1 crore grant given to it by the state government through Malnad Area Development Board and Coastal Development Authority to purchase environment-friendly vehicles and these will be dedicated for public use in front of the box office of the Nisargadhama on January 5 at 3.30pm.
The visitors can use these electric vehicles to roam around the Nisargadhama. The service can be availed by paying Rs.25 for adults and Rs.10 for children. There is hop in hop out facility to the vehicles throughout the park. All the other vehicles are banned in the park region due to security reasons.
The city buses going to Yedurupadavu inside Pilikula Nisargadhama now goes via Moodushedde road. Only the residents of Yedurapadavu and the surrounding areas can pass through the Nisargadhama with prior permission from the authorities of the Nisargadhama.
Under special circumstances, buses hired by educational institutions for excursion purposes too will be allowed to enter the Nisargadhama with prior permission from the authorities and after paying the parking fee. The authorities stated this has been done to preserve the rare Western Ghats species housed there.
