Mangaluru: Despite several cautionary messages issued by banks that they never seek the ATM card details of their customers, people continue to fall prey to cyber theft cases.
In the recent case of a cyber theft reported from the city, former Mangaluru South MLA JR Lobo has been duped of Rs 49,000. A case in this regard has been registered with the Kadri East police station.
As per the report, Lobo received a call from a man posing to be an employee of State Bank of India on July 5. An unsuspecting Lobo happened to divulge his debit card details, including PIN and OTP to the conman during the course of their conversation. The subsequent messages, sent by the bank informing about the amount debited from Lobo’s bank account led the former MLA to realise that he had been duped.
