Mangaluru: The Anti-Rowdy Squad arrested two persons in connection to extortion case and seized a motorcycle and Rs 16.57 lakh in cash from their possession on Sunday, December 9. The total worth of the seized property is estimated at Rs 17.17 lakh.
The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Shafi (26), son of Hasanabba and Mohammed Riyaz, son of Isaq, both residents of Ilanthila in Beltangady taluk. According to the police sources, the accused had waylaid an elderly person, Ganesh Kamath of Bejai when he was walking on the road near Sri Rama Bhajana Mandir in Bejai on September 20, 2018. Though Kamath screamed for help, the accused snatched the bag of Ganesh Kamath and robbed off around Rs 27 lakh from his possession.
A case was registered at Urwa police station in this regard. Based on a credible information, a team of police attached to Anti-Rowdy Squad succeeded in nabbing both accused.
The accused would be produced before the Court, police sources said.
