Kasargod: At the forefront of the fight for the inclusion of the Tulu language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution during the Parliamentary session on Wednesday, was a surprising face. Kasargod MP P Karunakaran, who began the debate on the issue, earned the admiration of the netizens on social media and his speech in the Parliament has gone viral.
During the Parliamentary session, Karunakaran quoted statistics from various census reports in support of his argument and urged the government to include the language in the Eighth Schedule.
While he received the adulation of the people, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel earned their ire for their silence and not raising any demands in favour of the inclusion of the Tulu language in the Eighth Schedule.
DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla posted on Facebook: “Kerala MP representing CPM has raised the issue of Tulu in the eighth schedule of the Constitution. We have not seen our MPs from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi raising their voice. Our MPs are concerned only about cattle, religion and corpse. When will they raise genuine issues?
Kateel’s remarks regarding the fall in the Dollar value and the unfinished Pumpwell flyover also became the target of ridicule on the internet.
