A devastating fire tore through a residence near Juma Masjid in Bunder, Mangaluru, on Saturday. The blaze erupted at approximately 11:15 am, engulfing an old tiled house where six families lived on a single story. Thankfully, all occupants managed to escape unharmed, with no casualties reported.
Responding swiftly to the emergency, personnel from the Pandeshwar fire service arrived at the scene with two fire service vehicles. Their prompt action helped contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
Preliminary investigations indicate that an electrical short circuit sparked the fire. The residents, observing Ramzan fasting, were still asleep until around 11 am when bystanders noticed smoke emanating from the house’s roof. Prompted by the observers, the occupants evacuated the premises swiftly.
Tragically, the fire destroyed all belongings inside the house, leaving only ashes behind. Sajina, one of the affected family members, highlighted their dire circumstances, noting a lack of basic amenities such as a pot for drinking water. They appealed to the district administration for assistance during this challenging period.
