Mangaluru: The Eta variant (lineage B.1.525) of Coronavirus has been found in a person from Mangaluru who returned from Qatar two months ago.
It is the first such case in the State. This variant was discovered at the time of genome sequencing in a City lab.
The experts point out that not much studies have been carried out on this variant as yet.
The first cases of this variant were detected in December 2020 in the UK and Nigeria, and as of 15 February, it had occurred in the highest frequency among samples in the latter country.
