Mangaluru: To materialize the long pending demand of fisheries jetty at Kulai, the Union government has sanctioned Rs 196.51 crore under the Sagar Mala project.
Addressing a press meet at circuit house, MP Nalin Kumar said, “The project would be implemented on a cost-sharing basis between the Union Ministry for Shipping, Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, New Mangalore Port Trust and Karnataka Government. Union Ministry for Shipping would contribute Rs 98.25 crores, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries and New Mangalore Port Trust would contribute Rs 88.43 crores and Karnataka government will bear Rs 9.83 crore of 196.351 crores..”
Nalin Kumar Kateel also said that Union government has already acquired 10 acres of land for the project. There is no dispute over the land for the project. The fisheries port would be 400 meters long, which will accommodate 325 mechanized boats and 300 country boats in the jetty.
“This jetty will consist of 2 auction halls, 2 sheds to repair fishing nets, restroom for fishermen, two sheds to repair boats,” he added.
Nalin Kumar also informed that the Ministry of Human Resource Development has sanctioned a Kendriya Vidhyala to the district. This will be constructed in premises of NITK in Surthkal. This project will be materialized by 2019.
