FMMC holds awareness program on M’luru Police Mobile App

Mangaluru: The committee for prevention of sexual harassment of women at Father Muller Medical College held an awareness program on Mobile applications (app) for safety among women and the general public.

Father mullerAddressing the gathering at the college auditorium, City Police Commissioner S Murugan said that this app is a display of affection and concern that the city police have towards the people of Mangaluru and their betterment. “Through this App not only safety of women is monitored, but children, elderly etc can feel secure”, he added.

Edison Ryan of Diya System – who with his team has designed the app, explained the functions of the Mobile app. He said, “There is a women and child safety option which sends an SMS or email with location information when the phone is shaken five times or power button is pressed five times. There is also option to track a person’s safety until he/she reaches home.”

According to his description, the user has to set phone numbers or email id to SMS during distress. It helps the receiver to track the location of the person who is in distress and inform the police.The FIR status helps the user to know the status of a FIR filed by providing the police station with name and year with FIR number. It will provide the status of the FIR from 2014 till date he explained.

The daily crime report provides details on different types of crimes reported for the day. The police station location feature helps the user to know the location of the crime and the jurisdiction of the police station, so that he/she can go to the police station to file a complaint. Furthermore, the find parking area will help a person to know the nearest parking area identified by the Mangalore City Corporation to park the vehicle.

In the ’report incident’ option, the people can report an incident with a photo and send it to the control room or DCP (law and order) or DCP (crime) or to the City Police Commissioner.

Apart from that the app consists an option called ’emergency’ which gives phone numbers of control rooms, ambulance, snake catcher, helplines for aged, child and women.

In the ’call us’ option, the user can call the city police control room, PSI, City Police Commissioner and DCP. The traffic offence and penalty option provides an array of details on penalty for various traffic violations. The option on ’live traffic’ provides details on closure of roads, busy roads, moderate traffic on a particular stretch and so on. The page will provide live traffic details and help user to avoid traffic and move into the traffic free roads.

The app was launched on April 7, however an awareness initiative about the same was required due to which the program was conducted, said the college.

Following this, Fr. Patrick Rodrigues, Director, FMCI delivered the presidential address. He emphasized on the usage of the APP and how technology has been working as a savior.  

Dr.J.P. Alva administrator of FMMC, Dr Padmaja Udaykumar – head of committee for prevention of sexual harassment also spoke during the event. DCP Shantharaj and other officials were present during the event.
