Mangaluru: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly duping an elderly woman using fake property papers.

Ashok Kumar (47) and Reshma Vasudev Nayak (36) have been identified as the arrested accused.

According to sources, an old woman from Bajpe named Christin Edwin Joseph Gonsalves (84) owned 77 cents of land in Udupi. She had urged Rama Poojary to help him in selling the land.

When the accused learned of this, they informed Rama Poojary that they were willing to buy the land. They signed a contract and offered him a cheque for Rs. 30 lakh.

The accused then said that due to financial constraints, they would only register 4 cents of land, with the remaining 37 cents being registered later. Kumar and Nayak, on the other hand, submitted fake paperwork and forged a contract for 77 cents of land.

However, the accused’s check bounced and Christin Edwin Joseph filed a police complaint, which resulted to the arrest of the accused.
