Mangaluru: Former vice president of the Mangaluru Municipal Council, Sharada Acharya, passed away, on Saturday at the age of 89.
She was the vice president of the Karnataka Pradeshiya Sabha and was a member of the Mangaluru Municipal Council for three terms.
She was imprisoned during the time of emergency and later on contested for the 1978 State Assembly elections from the Mangaluru Assembly Constituency as a Janata Party candidate. She was active in Bharat Scouts and Guides and was the treasurer of the Siri Horticulture Association.
She leaves behind two sons, including RSS Mangaluru City Corporation unit joint convenor Sunil Acharya, and a daughter.
