Mangaluru: The City police arrested four accused in connection with gang rape and murder of 8-year-old girl that happened on Sunday November 21.
The accused have been identified as identified as Jayban alias Jay Singh (21), Mukhesh Singh (20), Manish Tirki (33) and Muneem Singh (20).
It is said that the body of the girl was found in drainage near roof tiles factory at Ulaibettu in the outskirts of City. The incident attracted widespread anger among residents of the area. City Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar formed four teams to nab the culprits. It is said that 20 workers all from Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh were working in a tiles factory, and the girl was playing with her three siblings in factory premises when the accused Jayban took her away to their room, and raped her. Accused Jayban strangled her to death and along with another accused Muneem dumped her body into a drain. The other accused later raped her. The victim’s family is also from Jharkhand, and they filed a police complaint when she did not return.
All the accused are aged below 30. The police questioned all the 19 factory workers, and finally zeroed in on four workers. CCTV footage was collected and call lists were verified as well as locations were traced. The police nabbed the accused based on the statement of a child on Tuesday November 23. The workers confessed to the crime. The post-mortem report has confirmed strangulation, anal sexual abuse and excessive bleeding.
Mangaluru Rural Police have registered a case and further investigation is on. The police suspect that the accused have been involved in many such cases.
