Mangaluru: A 38-year-old person who failed to appear before the court after he was found guilty in an accident case and was absconding from the past 10 years was arrested from Moodbidri on Friday, October 12.
The arrested has been identified as Rajesh Naik, a resident of Thoudugoli, in Naringana village in Bantwal taluk. Sources from Panambur Police Station informed that Rajesh was working as a driver. A case was registered against him after his vehicle met an accident at Panambur, leaving a person with serious head injuries in the year 2007. He was found guilty when the court pronounced its judgment in that case.
However, Rajesh Naik did not appear before the court and went absconding since then. In order to evade arrest, he changed his address and has been residing at Kotebagilu in Moodbidri. A team of police headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mangaluru South Division) Rajendra D S and Panambur Sub-Inspector Umesh Kumar arrested the accused from Moodbidri.
The court has remanded him to judicial custody, sources said.
