Mangaluru: A gang of three miscreants, who barged into the premises of the Maratimule Masjid in Natekal, attacked a ninth standard student on the night of June 8.

Shaklen (16), the victim, is a resident of Kinya and student of a residential school in Natekal.

On Friday evening, Shaklen and his classmate had a fight over trivial issues. After the same was settled, their school headmaster sent them both to perform prayer in the Maratimule Masjid. Meanwhile, Araf, the other student who fought with Shaklen, brought the issue to notice of his friends over the phone and asked them to teach Shaklen a “lesson”. A group of men showed up near Masjid, pulled Shaklen out and assaulted him with hockey sticks.

People inside the Masjid came to the boy’s help when he raised an alarm. Seeing others coming to the boy’s rescue, the miscreants fled from the spot.

The Konaje police have registered a case and the people who gathered in front of the station urged that the accused be arrested immedialtly.

Shaklen, who suffered injuries in the incident, has been admitted to a private hospital in Natekal
