Generosity at its best: Dr.G Shankar donates Rs. 45 lakh on his birthday

Mangaluru: As Anne Frank says, “No one has become poor by giving”, is brought to true sense in today’s world. Philanthropist, Dr. G Shankar, on his birthday, donates Rs. 45 lakh towards the dialysis and cancer patients, at the Father Muller Medical College Hospital located at Kankanady.

The beneficiaries includes, a total of 95 dialysis and 60 cancer patients, undergoing treatment at FMMCH.

Dr. Shankar handed over the amount to the beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Every year on my birthday, I have been sharing a part of my wealth with the needy. The Christain Missionaries, who ventured into coastal region such as Mangaluru and Udupi, have pursued their idea of serving the commoner, through education and health care”.

“They are the true examples of dedication towards the society, and I follow them, trying to harness the same”, he added.

He advised the patients to remain strong amidst all odds.

“Death may come in any form and anytime. Fr. Muller is known for its excellence in health care services. There are doctors and experts, who’ll enable you’ll to confront any odds and trials. Have trust in God”, said Dr. Shankar.

Over Rs. 2 cr will be distributed in various hospitals of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. More than 1000 people will be benefiting from this”. he added

Administrator, FMMCH, Fr. Ajith B Menezes said, “Today the Catholic Church is celebrating the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, who responded to God’s vision and surrendered everything to begin serving the poor. On this auspicious occasion, Dr. G Shankar has been exemplary to the society”.

“We are grateful to the almighty, for giving Dr. Shankar, who has been a role model in serving the poor. Our blessings multifold, when we begin giving. This is witnessed in Dr. Shankar”, he added.

Head of Surgical Oncology, Dr. Rohan Gatty, appreciating the generosity and service of Dr. Shankar said, “He is the one who gives without any expectations”.

He advised the patients, not to give up hopes and remain strong whatsoever the circumstances might be. He spoke encouraging words for the patients.

A beneficiary named Jeevaraju, expressed his gratitude towards the trust and the institution.

Public Relations Officer, David V Sequeira hosted the programme.

Professor, Dialysis Department, Dr. Manjunath proposed the vote of thanks.

Chief Nursing Officer, Sr. Janet, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Uday Kumar, doctors and nurses from the Department of Oncology and Dialysis, were present during the occasion.
