Girl dies for want of dialysis in Puttur

Mangaluru: The nearly weeklong doctors’ strike all over Karnataka, has proven to be a fatal ordeal for many. The closure of many private hospitals with state of the art facilities, left a heavy burden on the lesser able government hospitals.

Many patients in dire need of treatment and care, were turned away either due to the lack of facilities or the lack of empathy.

Although the strike was called off on November 16, many places continue to see doctors on strike and some private hospitals continue to refuse patients.

Stories of deaths resulting from the strike do not seem to make a difference as yet another person died on November 17, due to the lack of treatment.

A B Com student, from Puttur, suffering from kidney failure died here on November 16, after doctors failed to turn up following the strike across Karnataka against the provisions in the amendment bill to the KPME Act of the government.

The deceased has been identified as Pooja, a second B Com of Puttur Vivekananda college, Kabaka, Vidyapura.

Pooja had to undergo dialysis twice a week and on Thursday, she had gone to a clinic in Puttur for dialysis. Since all the doctors were absent she was left unattended and died as a result of their negligence.
