Ullal: When it comes to communal clashes and unrest, Dakshina Kannada district owns an inglorious position. Several pockets are considered to be ‘communally sensitive’ and Ullal is one of them. But, on Friday, scenes that unfurled in the region that was dented by episodes of communal attacks, stabbings and violence would bring a very positive reason to be happy about.
As Hindus took out a procession to Ullal-Uliya from Thokkottu to take part in Brahmakalashothsava of Sri Ullalthi Dharma Arasara Kshethra, Muslim brethren received the procession at Masthikatte and served soft drinks and water to over 1000 participants of the procession. As many as 50 Muslim brethren became a part of the programme, which was much needed at this juncture of time.
Former Ullal Town Municipal Council Member Usman Kallapu, who led the ‘sherbet’ distribution programme said that people of Ullal have remained united and will continue to be so. The event was intended to teach lessons to a small section of people who want to tarnish the image of Ullal by sparking violence.
The religious programmes at the Sri Kshethra are scheduled to be held from January 6 to 12.
