Mangaluru: “Goa government did not ban fish transportation from Karnataka, but it asked to obtain a certificate from the food department of Goa to ensure that the quality of fish being transported to Goa is good,” informed Revenue Minister R V Deshpande on Sunday, November 25.
Addressing the reporters at Deputy Commissioner’s office Deshpande said that he has already met Health Minister of Goa Vishwajit P Rane in this regard. “When I spoke to the Health Minister of Goa Vishwajit P Rane he had clarified that Goa government did not ban the entry of fish from any state. But, in order to get quality fish, they have insisted fishermen to obtain a certificate from the food department. As it is a good move from the Goa government, we should welcome it and maintain the standard of our food,” he said.
Meanwhile, he informed that fishermen of Karnataka are not mixing any chemicals to fish. They might have transported fish with ice, but not with chemicals.
Kerala and Andhra Pradesh also transport fish to Goa and it is good if they furnish the certificate from the food department. Deputy Commissioner of Karwar district has already convened a meeting with fishermen and the officials of fisheries department to convey the direction of Goa government, he said.
Deshpande came to the city to inaugurate Moodbidri and Kadaba taluks officially. However, owing to the sudden demise of actor and former union minister Ambareesh it was postponed. Deshpande expressed grief over the death of Rebel Star Ambareesh and said it is a great loss to both film and political field. “The formal inauguration of Kadaba and Moodbidri taluk has been postponed due to mourning. The next date for the inaugural programme is yet to be fixed,” he said. Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader also condoled the demise of Ambareesh.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil and former MLA J R Lobo were present.
