Good Samaritan Madhav Bhat of Bhatkal no more

Mangaluru: Madhav Bhat, 61, owner of Hotel Srinivas Deluxe, who has to his credit of serving sumptuous full meals to students at a nominal cost passed way on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, following serious health issues. He was admitted to the ICU at Yenepoya Hospital in Mangalore on Monday and he passed away at about 9:00 p.m. the next day.

The last rites were performed on Tuesday. Madhav Bhat is survived by his wife Rajani and son Aditya.

Already famous Bhat became all the more popular on social networking site for his service to students. He served food to students at a meagre Rs 5. He had been doing so over 25 years. Any school kid could walk into his hotel and have a rice and sambar mid day meal by paying just Rs. 5/- Over 1000 children availed this facility every day and the numbers dipped only after the state government introduced free mid day meal scheme in schools. Later, he hiked the cost to Rs 10 owing to increase in cost of ingredients.
Madhav Bhat hailed from a prominent family of priests of Shirali in Uttar Kannada District. His father Vedamurthy Srinivas Bhat was the Head Priest of Shri Mahaganapathy Mahamaya Temple, Shirali.
