Mangaluru: As many as 80 temporary licenses have been granted for the clearing of 13 sand blocks hindering the movement of fishing boats in the district’s coastal regulatory zone, informed Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra.
In a statement released recently, the DC informed that it is mandatory for the boats and vehicles involved in the sand clearing work to be fitted with Global Positioning Systems (GPS), as per the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd.
Documents showing compliance must be furnished to the office of the deputy director of mines and geology, he added.
“All vehicles that are transporting sand should be registered on the ‘Sand Bazar App’ without fail. The owners of vehicles willing to transport sand and temporary licence holders must contact the office of the deputy director for mines and geology in Mallikatte and submit duly filled in applications in the prescribed forms,” he stated.
The ‘Sand Bazar App’ was unveiled at the DC’s office on November 20. Through this app, customers and members of the general public can meet their sand requirements.
